I’m a professional photographer, so you might not be surprised to hear that even when I’m not working, I take a lot of photos. I love using my Nikkon to shoot images of my kids, but more often than not, just like you, I end up taking candid pictures with my phone. In fact, I’m actually embarrassed to tell you how many images I currently have on my camera roll. That’s where Photo Apps come into play.
It can be tough to know what to do with all the photos we take. I’ve talked about photo storage options in the past, and I definitely recommend backing up the photos on your phone in case something happens to it. But beyond backup – what do we really DO with these digital memories?
I’m as guilty as the next person of neglecting the photos on my phone, but in an effort to benefit more from these precious digital moments, I’ve rounded up a short list of apps to help us all do more with our photos.
5 Apps to Help You Do More With Your Photos
Mpix Tap to Print
I’m a big believer in printing photos and hanging them up around the house. Photos can instantly transport us to a different time and place, and the memory of that moment can actually increase our level of happiness. But the task of transferring photos from the phone to the computer in order to print them at home is often just too much to fit into our busy lives. This is why I love Mpix Tap to Print. Mpix is probably my favorite online printing service, and their app makes it super easy to print the best images from your camera roll, Facebook, or Instagram.
Ink
Ink makes it easy to send cards and postcards to loved ones using photos from your phone. You choose from hundreds of designs – birthday, get well, thank you, thinking of you, Valentines, etc. – and then customize it with a photo (up to 5) and your message. Import the contact you wish to send it to, and for a few dollars, your card is on its way.
Snapseed
In my years as a professional photographer, I’ve grown to really love what can happen to an image in the editing process. This may be one reason I’ve been hesitant to print photos straight from my phone – because it leaves out the opportunity to edit. Snapseed, however, solves that problem. A free app, Snapseed offers near-professional level editing functionality right on your mobile device.
Timehop
I’m sure most of you already use this one, but the list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of this Aww-inducing photo app. If you’ve yet to try it, timehop sends you an alert each day and shows you the photos you shared on the same day in previous years. If you post photos on Facebook or Instagram fairly regularly, it can provide quite the jog down memory lane! I love this app for its ability to resurface photos and memories you might otherwise have forgotten.
Chatbooks
I’ve never been a scrapbooker, but I love the scrapbook style photo books you can create on Mpix or Shutterfly. The problem with those, of course, is that it takes time to put them together. Even the simplest photo book, can feel like a chore. Chatbooks, however, takes literally 30 seconds. Seriously. It’s not as detailed or embellished as you’ll find elsewhere, but with a few clicks and around $8, you can create a photo book of your selected Instagram posts (by date or by hashtag), Facebook posts, or from your camera roll.
