Capturing All The Emotions – Real Family Photography

The sweetest little family visited me the other day, even though it was chilly out and Little Bit wasn’t feeling the best. In those situations, I really work hard to incorporate play and distractions throughout the session so that we can capture all of the child’s diverse emotions.

Let’s talk about capturing an authentic connection during your family photography session. Of course, we all want a posed traditional picture, but as time goes on you’ll come back to your images wanting something more. That deep connection, a playful moment or the sense of comfort you see as your mom embraced you till you could move past those tears.

It isn’t always easy to capture natural interactions, especially if you are nervous around the camera.  Before any of my sessions, I always try to communicate with you that although I love capturing a few posed family portraits for my family photography sessions, I truly prefer to capture authentic images of your interactions. I truly love capturing candid moments. During the session, I try to have you relax and play, tell jokes, walk etc… mainly R E L A X! I try my best to make everyone comfortable. I’ll provide suggestions throughout the session to drive those natural connections we all love so dearly.  Some prompts you might receive during one of my sessions are, “Tell mommy and daddy a secret!” or “Tickle each other!” Sometimes, I’ll incorporate elements of nature to create an activity or game, i.e. I’ll tell you or the children to reach for the leaves, play peek-a-boo, or go behind the tree and surprise us.

But for some little girls being a princess is REAL, so of course we can always add in a pretty princess dress up session at the end.
