Making a Difference with Family Photos – How Professional Photographers Can Give back

Freckled Flower Photography’s Commitment to Charitable Giving

If you watch the news for any length of time (or simply scroll through your news feed), the world can seem like a pretty dark place. But instead of curling up in a ball to hide from it all, it’s more important than ever that we all do whatever we can to try and add back a little light.

Giving back is so very important to me personally and to Freckled Flower as a brand. Freckled Flower Photography is founded in the joy of childhood and family. Let’s face it, I started this business, because I love capturing the chaos and beauty of childhood, family, and life. It’s my mission to capture family photos that serve as a reminder of the joy (and chaos!), so that clients can recall and rekindle those feelings of joy at a later time. And this, I hope, is one small way that I can make the world a little brighter.

I feel so very fortunate to run a business that allows me to do what I love – and knowing that business is helping families preserve special moments – well, that makes it even better. But it’s still a business. For me to truly “give back,” I had to find a way to use my talent to raise money for causes that matter to me.

St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, which is committed to not only treating kids but also finding cures, consistently touches my heart. This is why every year, I hold sessions that raise money for St. Jude. Clients are always happy to know that part of their money is going to a good cause, and I am reminded that I have the power to affect real change. Thanks to my wonderful clients, the last event raised $525 for St. Jude, and I’m hopeful the next one will surpass that total.

They may seem like small things – donating cash to schools, giving away free sessions for charity auctions, holding sessions that raise money for St. Jude – but for me, my business allows me to give far more than I could personally. And that’s something I can feel good about. And I think my clients do too.

Despite the seemingly dark times, we live in a world where small business owners are consistently paying it forward in their communities – be it with money, products, services, volunteer hours, etc. They may not have a PR team making sure the world knows about their acts of kindness – that’s not why they’re doing it anyway – but small businesses are giving back and making a difference every day, all around us.

I’m proud and honored to be one of them – making the world a brighter place through family photography.
